TRAINERS HAVE A DOUBLE
ON CLOSING DAY AT GGF
     Trainers Kent Molinaro and Steve Miyadi toasted closing-day of the 2005 Golden Gate Fields fall meeting with a double Monday.

     Molinaro saddled the winners of the first Daily Double, taking the first race with Astra’s Sister ($3.20) and the second with Wrench It ($4.80).  The Molinaro Daily Double paid $10.00.

     Miyadi, who finished as the third leading trainer at the fall session with 19 victories,  won the third race with Shi’ahs Devil ($8.40) and the fifth race with Rich Venus ($8.00).  

     Jerry Hollendorfer earned his 27th straight training championship at Golden Gate Fields by saddling 54 winners during the 46-day season.  Hollendorfer was especially dominant in stakes events as he won seven of the 11 stakes races run at the meeting, including the final four.  Art Sherman finished second in the trainer standings with 37 wins.

     Jockey Russell Baze won 52 races to garner his 28th career riding title at Golden Gate Fields.  Included in Baze’s total were four stakes victories.  Roberto Gonzalez finished second in the jockey standings with 34 wins and Chad Schvaneveldt was third with 30 victories.

    After a six-day break for the holidays, thoroughbred racing in California will resume on Monday, Dec. 26, when Bay Meadows opens its 2005-2006 Holiday Meeting and Santa Anita kicks off its 2005-2006 season.

    There are special early post times at both Santa Anita and Bay Meadows for the opening-day programs.  Santa Anita begins at noon and post time at Bay Meadows is 12:15 p.m.
 
    Bay Meadows’ Holiday Meeting is a 31-day session that will run through Sunday,
Feb. 5.  The standard post time is 12:45 p.m.
