WINNING WALNUT CREEK AT GGF
Sharp Writer charged from last to first to win the $41,700 Walnut Creek Stakes by 2 1/2 lengths Sunday at Golden Gate Fields.
Sharp Writer, ridden by Chad Schvaneveldt and trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, took the
1 3/8-miles turf marathon for 4-year-olds and up in 2:15.15 on a firm Lakeside Turf Course. Azarouak finished second, two lengths in front of Balustrade.
Sharp Writer improved to 2-for-3 on the Golden Gate Fields lawn and recorded his fourth victory in 17 career starts. Owned in partnership by Hollendorfer, George Todaro and Howard Litt, Sharp Writer earned $22,500.
Sharp Writer was the 2-to-1 favorite in a field of six older horses and paid $6.60 to win.
Golden Gate Fields will kick off the final week of its 2006 spring meeting with an eight-race program on Wednesday. Post time is 1:05 p.m.
