LOST IN THE FOG HAS FIRST WORK

LOST IN THE FOG HAS FIRST WORK
IN PREPARATION FOR 2006 CAMPAIGN
Lost in the Fog, the nation’s champion sprinter of 2005, began preparations for his 2006 campaign Sunday by working three furlongs at Golden Gate Fields.

With Hall of Fame jockey Russell Baze aboard, Lost in the Fog completed his drill in
36 1/5 seconds.  Trainer Greg Gilchrist and Baze were both satisfied with the work.

“He went easy 12s (12-second furlongs),” said Gilchrist.  “It was very good for a first workout.”

“That’s just what we wanted,” said Baze.  “We just didn’t want to get him wound up.”

Lost in the Fog, owned by Harry J. Aleo of San Francisco, won his first 10 races before finishing seventh in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint.  The 4-year-old colt is expected to make his 2006 debut in the $100,000 Golden Gate Fields Sprint on Saturday, April 22.

Gilchrist and Aleo unveiled a promising prospect Sunday afternoon when they sent out Smokey Stover in the fifth race.  Despite hesitating at the start and racing four wide into the stretch, Smokey Stover rallied to win the six-furlong maiden allowance contest
for 3-year-olds by 2 1/2 lengths in a quick 1:09.22.

Macario Rodriguez rode Smokey Stover, a gelded son of Put It Back who was purchased as a 2-year-old for $140,000.

NOTES:  Russell Baze rode three winners Sunday and leads apprentice Martin Garcia 11-9 in the jockey standings after the first week of racing at the spring meeting.
Baze scored with All Circuits Go ($3.20) in the third race, Logician ($4.00) in the fourth, and Captain Briggs ($11.40) in the sixth…There is no racing Monday or Tuesday.  An eight-race card on Wednesday will kick off a six-day racing week at GGF, which will present a special Presidents’ Day program on Monday, Feb. 20.
