FOUR CHECKER RALLIES FOR UPSET IN
TURF FEATURE AT GOLDEN GATE FIELDS
Four Checker stormed down the middle of the course and got up in the final strides to win a three-horse photo finish in the $33,300 allowance feature at Golden Gate Fields Friday.
The largest price on the tote board at odds of 10-to-1, Four Checker rallied from last to first in the final eighth of a mile and defeated Kingdom Come by a nose in the 1 1/16 mile turf race for 3-year-olds and up. Datzig finished third, a neck behind Kingdom Come.
Four Checker, ridden by David Lopez, was timed in 1:44.14 and paid $22.80. Trained by James Cassidy and owned by Paul John Haggar, Four Checker is a
6-year-old gelding who has eight wins in 58 career starts.
Lopez rode back-to-back winners Friday. He took the sixth race with Tensioner ($5.00) before capturing the featured seventh race with Four Checker.
Leading jockey Russell Baze also bagged back-to-back wins, taking the fourth race with Crystal Event ($3.80) and the fifth with Sweeping Vision ($3.60).
Only three days remain at the Golden Gate Fields fall meeting. Post time Saturday, Sunday and Monday is 12:45 p.m.
