FANCY FOXTROT WIRES FIELD
IN TURF FEATURE AT GGF
Fancy Foxtrot, with jockey Dennis Carr nursing him on the lead through slow fractions, stole a wire-to-wire victory Sunday at Golden Gate Fields in the $41,947 turf feature.
Fancy Foxtrot, who was jumping up in class after having won a modest $10,000 claiming event in his previous start, took the 1 1/16 mile allowance race by 1 1/4 lengths over Sands of Time in 1:44.47 on a course rated good. Taco Willy finished third.
Fancy Foxtrot was allowed to set the pace uncontested through soft fractions of 24.20 seconds, 49.00 and 1:13.88. Consequently, the 4-year-old gelding had plenty left for the stretch run and he held on to earn his third victory in 23 career starts.
Owned in partnership by Allevato, Hubbard and Schnitzer et al, Fancy Foxtrot is trained by Art Sherman, who saddled three winners Sunday. Fancy Foxtrot earned $21,450 for his owners and paid $19.40 to win.
Sherman also won the first race with Prescriptionneeded ($2.60) and the ninth race with Princess Lianna ($5.80).
An eight-race card on Wednesday will kick off the final week of racing at the 2005 fall meeting, which concludes Monday, Dec. 19. Post time is 12:45 p.m.
