SATURDAY SIMULCASTS WILL SHOWCASE RACHEL ALEXANDRA, ZENYATTA

The leading ladies of U.S. horse racing, Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta, will both be in action this Saturday in races that will be simulcast to Golden Gate Fields.

Rachel Alexandra, the outstanding 3-year-old filly who won the Kentucky Oaks by
20 1/4 lengths and then defeated the boys in the Preakness Stakes, will run in the $300,000 Mother Goose Stakes at Belmont Park.

Rachel Alexandra will be gunning for her seventh straight victory when she competes in the Grade 1 Mother Goose, a 1 1/8-miles test for 3-year-old fillies.  She’ll have the services of her regular pilot, jockey Calvin Borel.

Zenyatta, undefeated in 10 career starts and the champion older female of 2008, will put her perfect record on the line in the $300,000 Vanity Handicap at Hollywood Park.
Trained by John Shirreffs, Zenyatta will be seeking back-to-back victories in the Grade 1 Vanity, a 1 1/8-miles race for fillies and mares.

Zenyatta, who toted 124 pounds when she defeated Tough Tiz’s Sis by a half-length in last year’s Vanity, will carry high weight of 129 pounds Saturday.  Jockey Mike Smith will ride Zenyatta, a 5-year-old daughter of Street Cry who has earned $2,234,580 in her 10 races.

Golden Gate Fields is open all summer for simulcast wagering on racing from top tracks across the nation and Canada.  Live racing returns to Golden Gate Fields on
Aug. 12.
