SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE FRESHENS UP GOLDEN GATE FIELDS’ TAPETA SURFACE
Scheduled maintenance was performed on Golden Gate Fields’ synthetic Tapeta racing surface Sunday and Monday in preparation for the track’s 2010 summer-fall meeting, which begins Aug. 25.
Golden Gate Fields track superintendent Juan Meza, along with a team of experts from the Tapeta Footings home office in North East, Maryland, added fibers and wax to the one-mile main track oval. The maintenance work began after horses completed their morning workouts Sunday and continued through Monday afternoon.
“We constantly strive to keep our racing surface in top condition for our horses, exercise riders, jockeys, trainers, owners, and the betting public,” said Robert Hartman, general manager of Golden Gate Fields. “A safe, consistent racetrack obviously benefits everyone involved in horse racing, and we offer just such a surface here at Golden Gate Fields.”
Hartman said the addition of the fibers and wax “rejuvenates” the Tapeta surface, which was installed at Golden Gate Fields in the summer of 2007.
