RACHEL ALEXANDRA RACES SATURDAY AT MONMOUTH; HOLLENDORFER GUNNING FOR ANOTHER BIG WEEKEND
Fans of 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra will want to be at Golden Gate Fields Saturday for the simulcast of the $400,000 Lady’s Secret Stakes from Monmouth Park in New Jersey.
Rachel Alexandra will face six rivals in the Lady’s Secret, which will be decided at a mile and an eighth. Rachael Alexandra will break from post position five and be ridden by Calvin Borel.
Undefeated in eight stakes starts in 2009, Rachel Alexandra opened 2010 with back-to-back second-place finishes in stakes at the Fair Grounds and Churchill Downs. Rachel Alexandra flashed her 2009 form in her third start this year when she rambled to a
10 1/2-length victory in the Fleur de Lis Handicap at Churchill Downs on June 12.
Golden Gate Fields will simulcast races two through 12 from Monmouth Park Saturday. The Lady’s Secret is the 11th race on the program and will be run at approximately 2:57 p.m.
Northern California trainer Jerry Hollendorfer will be gunning for his third straight stakes-winning weekend when he sends out runners in stakes events at Del Mar Saturday and Sunday.
Hollendorfer won the Grade 2 $263,200 Delaware Oaks at Delaware Park with Blind Luck on July 10 and then came back a week later to capture the Grade 3 $150,000 Modesty Handicap at Arlington Park with Tuscan Evening and the Grade 2 Swaps Stakes at Hollywood Park with Skipshot.
Saturday at Del Mar, Hollendorfer will start U R All That I Am and Lilly Fa Pootz in the $75,000 Osunitas Stakes, a 1 1/16-mile turf race for fillies and mares. Sunday, “The Dorf” will send out City to City in the Grade 2 $150,000 San Clemente Handicap, a one-mile grass race for 3-year-old fillies.
In addition to racing from Monmouth Park and Del Mar, Golden Gate Fields’ weekend simulcast schedule will feature action from Saratoga, Sacramento, Arlington Park, Woodbine and Hastings Park. Gates open at 10 a.m.
