BAZE SWEEPS FIRST THREE RACES EN ROUTE TO FOUR-WIN AFTERNOON
Jockey Russell Baze swept the first three races en route to a four-win afternoon at Golden Gate Fields Saturday.
Baze captured the first race with Roar of Eagles ($6.40), the second with Fade to Gold ($5.40) and the third with Blushing Bear Cat ($4.60). The $1 “Russell Baze Pick 3” paid $18.50.
Baze completed a riding four-bagger when he won the sixth race with odds-on favorite Boot the Boss ($3.60). Baze is the leading jockey at the fall/winter meeting with 33 wins through 17 days of racing.
Frank Alvarado, second in the jockey standings with 22 victories, won two races Saturday. Alvarado took the fifth race with Stilorgan ($5.20) and the ninth with Mom Is Ready ($8.00).
Steve Sherman saddled two winners to move into a tie with Jerry Hollendorfer for first place in the trainer standings. Sherman scored his victories with Roar of Eagles in the first race and Tejon ($3.80) in the seventh. Hollendorfer and Sherman both have 12 wins at the meeting.
Racing and the NFL share the spotlight Sunday at Golden Gate Fields as the track will present a nine-race card and also show all the football games via the Sunday Ticket. Sunday is Dollar Day with general parking, general admission, programs, beers, hot dogs, and sodas all costing just a buck. Post time is 12:45 p.m.
