SMILING TIGER GIVEN NOD AS FAVORITE IN LOST IN THE FOG STAKES AT GGF; WIENER NATIONALS

The impressive maiden winner Smiling Tiger has been made a 5-to-2 favorite on the morning line for Saturday’s $75,000 Lost in the Fog Stakes at Golden Gate Fields.

The Lost in the Fog, a five-furlong sprint for 2-year-olds, is the featured eighth race on an 11-race program that begins at 12:45 p.m.  Post time for the Lost in the Fog is
4:15 p.m.

Smiling Tiger, a Kentucky-bred colt by Hold That Tiger, made his debut on May 1 at Golden Gate Fields and ran away to a six-length victory in a four-furlong dash.  Smiling Tiger won despite throwing a fit in the post parade – he unseated jockey Russell Baze twice and ran off.

Trained by Jeff Bonde, Smiling Tiger will once again have the services of Baze Saturday.  Smiling Tiger is owned by Alan Klein and Philip Lebherz.

The field for the Lost in the Fog, in post position order, is as follows: Empire of the Sun, Omar Figueroa rides, 12-to-1; Decatur Island, Chad Schvaneveldt, 12-to-1; Ball Bearing, Luis Martinez, 20-to-1; Little Bud Bud, Frank Alvarado, 15-to-1; Cahill Country, David Lopez, 12-to-1; Smiling Tiger, Baze, 5-to-2; Sweet Tigger, William Antongeorgi III, 4-to-1; Roos On the Loose, Alonso Quinonez, 3-to-1; Erin’s Cajun, Francisco Duran, 6-to-1; and Hetch, Jose Contreras, 10-to-1.

WIENER NATIONALS  --  Saturday’s card will also feature the Wiener Nationals.  A total of 108 Dachshunds will compete in nine 30-yard heats, with the heat winners meeting in the championship final.

Downtown Beans, who shipped in from his hometown of Sacramento to win the first annual Dachshund Derby at Golden Gate Fields on April 5, is in heat 7 and is certainly the dog to beat.

CLOSING DAY SUNDAY  --  Fans attending Golden Gate Fields Sunday, closing day of the 2008-2009 meeting, will enjoy $1 general parking, $1 general admission,
$1 programs, $1 beers, $1 hot dogs, and $1 sodas.  Patrons will also be treated to live music as the popular Bay Area band The Cheeseballs will perform between races.
