BAZE FOLLOWS UP FOUR-WIN DAY
WITH RIDING DOUBLE AT GGF
Jockey Russell Baze followed up a four-win Sunday afternoon by riding two more winners Monday at Golden Gate Fields.
Baze won the first race on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day program with heavy favorite Uncertain Heights ($2.80) and the fourth race with 7-to-2 second choice Tail Spin Topper ($9.20).
Baze, the winningest jockey in North American racing history, increased his career victory total to 9,988 with Monday’s double. The Hall of Famer sits atop the Golden Gate Fields jockey standings with 88 victories at the 2007-2008 meeting.
Chad Schvaneveldt, who ranks seventh in the jockey standings with 21 victories, also won two races Monday. Schvaneveldt took the sixth race aboard Autism Awareness ($6.80) and the eighth with Jinete ($4.60).
Racing will resume at Golden Gate Fields Thursday. Post time is 12:45 p.m.
Thursday’s program will kick off a big week of racing at Golden Gate Fields, which will simulcast the Sunshine Million races on Saturday and present the California Derby on Sunday. Fans attending the Cal Derby program will receive a free Golden Gate Fields fleece blanket.
Post time Saturday will be 12:30 p.m. and first post Sunday will be 12:15 p.m.
