PREAKNESS STAKES SIMULCAST,
GOLDEN BEAR STAKES AT GGF SATURDAY
     An outstanding racing program, featuring the $50,000 Golden Bear Stakes and the simulcast of the Preakness Stakes, will be presented Saturday at Golden Gate Fields.

     Grandstand gates at Golden Gate Fields will open at 7 a.m. and the track will simulcast the entire Preakness Day card from Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland, where first post is 7:30 a.m.  Turf Club gates open at 10 a.m. and fans attending the track will receive a free digital alarm clock.

     Post time for the Preakness Stakes, the middle jewel of thoroughbred racing’s Triple Crown, is 3:15 p.m.  Kentucky Derby winner Big Brown will face 11 opponents in the
1 3/16-mile Preakness.

     The Golden Bear, a six-furlong dash for 3-year-olds, is the main event on a 10-race Golden Gate Fields card that begins at 12:15 p.m.  The Golden Bear is the fourth race on the program and is scheduled to be run at 1:45 p.m.

     Summer Haze, who has two wins and a second in three career starts, is the 9-to-5 morning line favorite in the Golden Bear.  A California-bred colt by Globalize, Summer Haze has won races on both dirt and turf and he’ll race on Golden Gate Fields’ Tapeta surface for the first time Saturday.

     Summer Haze is trained by Greg Gilchrist and will be ridden by Russell Baze.

    The field for the Golden Bear Stakes, in post position order, is as follows: Devils Afleet, Kyle Kaenel rides at 121 pounds, 2-to-1; Summer Haze, Baze, 121, 9-to-5;
Ruff N Tuff, Alex Bisono, 121, 6-to-1; Possibi, Frank Alvarado, 121, 10-to-1; Pleasure Grounds, Chad Schvaneveldt, 121, 5-to-1; and Nevada Worrier, Agapito Delgadillo, 121,
9-to-2.
 
      VICARINO TOPS TRIBESMAN  --  Vicarino outran Tribesman down the stretch to score a 3 1/2-length victory in the $44,260 sprint feature at Golden Gate Fields Friday.  Ridden by Baze and trained by Gilchrist, Vicarino completed six furlongs on the Tapeta surface in 1:10.06 and paid $4.20 as the even-money favorite in a field of eight.  The win was Vicarino’s sixth triumph in 10 career starts.
