The speedy Tribesman and stretch-running Siren Lure, both winners of multiple stakes, will meet Friday at Golden Gate Fields in a six-furlong allowance dash.
Tribesman is a 6-to-5 favorite on the morning line and Siren Lure is the 9-to-5 second choice in a field of five. The feature is third race on an eight-race program that begins at 12:45 p.m. Post time for the third race is 1:48 p.m.
Tribesman, owned by Kjell Qvale and trained by Roger Hansen, has eight victories in 15 career starts and $376,781 in earnings. A 5-year-old gelding, Tribesman will be making his first of the year.
Tribesman enjoyed a fine 2008 campaign, amassing four wins and a second in five starts. Tribesman recorded three of the wins in stakes and capped off his year with a victory in the $150,000 California Cup Sprint at Santa Anita.
Siren Lure is trained by Steve Sherman and owned in partnership by Stuart Kesselman and Tony and Marilyn Melkonian. A 8-year-old gelding, Siren Lure is a Grade 1 stakes-winner who is looking to become a millionaire Friday.
Siren Lure has been victorious in 15 of his 37 races and sports impressive career earnings of $994,244. Siren Lure is 1-for-3 this year, the victory coming in the Golden Gate Fields Sprint on March 21.
The field for Friday’s main event, in post position order, is as follows: Big Bad Leroybrown, William Antongeorgi III rides, 4-to-1; Tribesman, Russell Baze, 6-to-5;
Saipan, Chad Schvaneveldt, 10-to-1; Siren Lure, Frank Alvarado, 9-to-5; and Pocosin’s Game Boy, Julio Garcia, 6-to-1.
