Sunday was a day for doubles at Golden Gate Fields, where two trainers and two jockeys won two races apiece.
Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer swept the early Daily Double, winning the first race with Time to Honor ($5.20) and the second with Robertos Country ($27.60). Robertos Country was ridden by David Lopez, who also won the eighth race with Parko ($9.40).
Jockey Frank Alvarado won the third race with Jiggly ($5.80) and the ninth with Good Man Dan ($8.20).
Trainer Ed Moger, Jr. sent out a pair of horses that returned double-digit win payoffs – Miner Pic ($11.40), who captured the fifth race, and Beau Tiful Slew ($12.60), who took the seventh race.
Live racing will resume at Golden Gate Fields Thursday when the track kicks off the final week of racing at the 2008-2009 meeting. Post time is 12:45 p.m. and there is a carryover of $14,305 in the Pick Six.
Closing weekend will feature the $75,000 Lost in the Fog Stakes (a five-furlong dash for 2-year-olds) and the Wiener Nationals (see who is the fastest Dachshund in the event sponsored by Wienerschnitzel) on Saturday and a Dollar Day program on Sunday that will feature live music by The Cheeseballs.
