LENZINI SENDS OUT ANOTHER
LONGSHOT WINNER AT GGF
Trainer Michael Lenzini continues to test the fuses in the tote board at Golden Gate Fields.
Lenzini has sent out seven winners during the past seven racing programs at Golden Gate Fields and five of those victors went off at high odds, including Bank the Cash, who paid $68.00 to win after capturing Monday’s fifth race at 33-to-1.
Lenzini began his parade of long-shot winners on Oct. 3 when he won back to back races with Mean Joleene, who paid $96.60, and Way Speed, who returned $17.20. Both horses were the longest shots in their respective fields.
Last Friday, Lenzini won a pair of races with Topper’s Smiling, who paid $36.80, and Gorgeous Gibson, who returned $43.00.
Bank the Cash had finished eighth in his previous race but led from start to finish under apprentice rider Reed Saldana in Monday’s fifth race, a one-mile turf test for maidens. Bank the Cash romped home by four lengths over 36-to-1 Skimmy and those two runners formed an exacta that returned $473.80 for $1.
Russell Baze, who strained his back during a winning ride in the first race Saturday, returned to the saddle Monday and rode two winners. Baze won the first race with Hasty Court ($2.80) and the seventh with Exclusive Danielle ($3.00).
Racing will resume at Golden Gate Fields Wednesday. Post time is 12:45 p.m.
