BAZE THREE WINS SHY OF No. 10,000
HEADING INTO FINAL WEEK AT GGF
Russell Baze, the winningest jockey in North American horse racing history, heads into the final week of the 2007-2008 racing season at Golden Gate Fields just three victories shy of career win No. 10,000.
Baze has mounts in races three through eight at Golden Gate Fields Thursday, including morning-line favorites Swishing Tiger (the 8-to-5 choice in the fifth race) and Judged (5-to-2 in the eighth). He enters the card with 9,997 victories.
Post time at Golden Gate Fields Thursday is 12:45 p.m., which will also be the starting time Friday. Saturday, post time is 12:15 p.m. for a big 11-race program that will feature the $100,000 California Oaks and $1 specials – general parking, general admission, programs, beers, hot dogs and sodas are all just a buck.
Sunday’s closing-day card will have an early post time of 11:15 a.m. and Golden Gate Fields will give away 42-inch plasma televisions after each of the first eight races. The early starting time will enable fans to get home in time for the Super Bowl.
