KATHERINE R. N. RALLIES LATE TO CLAIM VICTORY AT GGF

KATHERINE R. N. RALLIES LATE
TO CLAIM VICTORY AT GGF
Rallying strongly in the final furlong, Katherine R. N. just got up to win the $31,786 feature race at Golden Gate Fields by a neck Saturday.

Katherine R. N. appeared to be defeated when odds-on favorite A P Charlie pulled away from her at the top of the stretch.  Katherine R. N. refused to give up, however, and came back on in deep stretch to edge 17-to-1 long shot Plata Quemada and A P Charlie.

Receiving a strong ride from jockey Frank Alvarado, Katherine R. N. won the one-mile allowance event for fillies and mares in 1:37.87.  Plata Quemada took second by
three-quarters of a length over A P Charlie.

Katherine R. N., who was making her first start since winning a $32,000 maiden-claiming event on Nov. 14, was dismissed at 8-to-1 in the wagering and paid $18.40.
Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer and owned by Mark DeDomenico, Katherine R. N. earned
$18,600 for the victory.

Alvarado and Russell Baze both rode two winners Saturday.  In addition to taking the feature with Katherine R. N., Alvarado also won the fifth race with Griffinstown ($5.20).
Baze scored with Judys House ($5.20) in the fourth race and Midnight Cabinet ($5.20) in the sixth.

Racing continues at Golden Gate Fields Sunday and Monday, Martin Luther King, Jr., Day.  Post time both days is 12:15 p.m.
