JOCKEY MARTINEZ HAS RIDING TRIPLE AT GGF
Michael Martinez won three races Saturday at Golden Gate Fields and those that backed the jockey were rewarded with healthy payoffs as none of his winning mounts were favored.
Martinez won the third race with Mesa Thunder, who paid $9.20 after going off as the fourth betting choice in a field of seven. Martinez came right back to take the fourth race with Dangerous Devil, who returned $10.00 as third wagering choice in a field of eight.
Martinez completed his riding hat trick when he captured the seventh race aboard
6-to-1 shot Bruno’s Wager, who paid $14.20 after being dismissed as the fourth betting choice in a field of eight.
The second-leading jockey at the 2009-2010 winter/spring meeting, Martinez has ridden 55 winners. Russell Baze, who won the first race Saturday with even-money favorite Cool Allie ($4.20), sits atop the jockey standings with 77 victories.
Racing continues at Golden Gate Fields Sunday. Post time is 12:45 p.m. and the track is offering $1 general parking, $1 general admission, $1 hot dogs, $1 beers, and
$1 sodas.
