PAUL’S HOPE RALLIES TO WIN SPRINT FEATURE
Paul’s Hope, the third choice in the betting, rallied from fourth in a field of five to win the $31,192 sprint feature at Golden Gate Fields Thursday.
Ridden by Leslie Mawing, Paul’s Hope drew even with leader Restless Youth in midstretch and then gradually pulled away from his rival in the final sixteenth of a mile to score by 1 1/4 lengths. Bamaha Breeze, the 6-to-5 favorite who set the pace, finished third.
Paul’s Hope was timed in 1:10.43 and paid $11.60 to win. A 6-year-old gelding, Paul’s Hope notched his seventh victory in 37 starts and his first win since July 30, when he captured a seven-furlong allowance race at Del Mar.
Jerry Hollendorfer trains Paul’s Hope and owns the horse in partnership with George Todaro. Thursday’s $16,800 payday increased Paul’s Hope’s earnings to $281,440.
Mawing had a riding triple Thursday. In addition to winning the third race with Paul’s Hope, Mawing took the fifth race with Dream Spotter ($5.60) and the seventh with Lady Schnapps ($7.40).
